Dr. Jay Hinckley

Dr. Jay Hinckley

Principal and Senior Bible Teacher

Dr. Hinckley graduated from Evangel College in 1987 with a major in Social Science, a concentration in History, and a minor in Communication and is a life time member of the International Honor Society in Social Science, PI Gamma Mu. He is certified to teach elementary self-contained classes (Kindergarten through eighth grade) as well as junior high and high school social science and English. His first teaching job in the fall of 1987 was in Girard. He joined the Calvary Academy staff teaching sixth grade in the fall of 1988. Dr. Hinckley completed his Master of Arts in Education Administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield in 1997. Beginning in the summer of 1998, he became the principal of Calvary Academy. In 2008, he graduated with his Doctor of Biblical Studies in Theology from Master's International School of Divinity. Dr. Hinckley has taught a myriad of courses during his many years at Calvary, but he currently teaches the senior Bible class. He is married to Amy and they have three sons, Jeremiah, Jesse, and Micah.

Mrs. Polly Jamison

Mrs. Polly Jamison

Junior Kindergarten

Polly Jamison teaches Junior Kindergarten. She graduated from the University of Illinois – Urbana with a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development. She received her teacher certification from the University of Illinois –Springfield. She has taught in both private and public schools. She has also worked for non profit organizations as a Family Life Educator. She most recently returned from Alaska where she taught first grade in a Title 1 school in a remote Yupik Eskimo fishing village on the Bering Sea. She is enjoying teaching at Calvary Academy and being near family once again. Mrs. Jamison started teaching at Calvary in the fall of 2010.

Mrs. Erin Machemer

Mrs. Erin Machemer

6th Grade

Mrs. Erin Machemer graduated from DePaul University with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2009. She is certified to teach Kindergarten through 9th grade and specializes in Middle School Language Arts, Social Science, and German. She taught in Chicago Public Schools for the first two years of her teaching career and is experienced in middle school and gifted classrooms. Before earning her Master’s Degree, she worked at an advertising agency in downtown Chicago for five years. Mrs. Machemer earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism with a minor in German from Ohio University in 2005. She currently teaches 6th grade and coaches volleyball and track at Calvary Academy. Mrs. Machemer and her husband, David, have been married for two years and have recently expanded their family with their new puppy, Stanley. Mrs. Machemer started teaching at Calvary in the fall of 2010.

Ms. Jennifer McCallon

Ms. Jennifer McCallon

JH Math & History and Coaches JH/HS Volleyball

Jennifer McCallon has been teaching at Calvary Academy since the Fall of 2007. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She graduated magna cum laude, and has a middle schoool endorsement in Language, Social Studies, and Science. She taught at-risk 1st graders in Charlotte, North Carolina, and 6th grade in Nokomis, Illinois. Jennifer is also the high school and junior high volleyball coach for Calvary Academy. Jennifer has two daughters, Alena and Elizabeth, who attend Calvary Academy.

Ms. Katie McElroy

HS English Teacher

Ms. McElroy graduated from Cedarville University with a Bachelor’s degree in English. She then went on to earn her Master’s degree in Teaching from Olivet Nazarene University. After teaching at Calvary Christian Academy in Normal for four years she moved to Springfield where she taught at Pleasant Plains High school. Ms. McElroy is excited to be back to teaching and ministering to students in a Christian environment and classroom.
Ms. McElroy has two children and she strives to teach them one of her favorite verses from Philippians. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13.
